Managed File Transfer Accessibility Statement

Reference: AMS.[not sure what]
Issue No: 1.0
Issue Date: 06/06/2025
Classification: Public

At AMS we are committed to ensuring that our digital properties are accessible to all users, regardless of ability. This accessibility statement outlines our adherence to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at the AA level, demonstrating our dedication to inclusivity and usability. We aim to continuously improve accessibility and address any issues identified.

Scope of Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies to the Managed File Transfer (MFT) Web Application developed by AMS. It outlines the accessibility standards implemented to ensure an inclusive experience for all users classified by AMS as "End Users."

Scope of Coverage within the application

The statement focuses on user-facing components of the MFT Web Application, specifically addressing the accessibility of features and functionalities available to the following user roles:

  • File Transfer Area
Guest: Users with the ability to receive file transfers.
Guest Sender: Users with permissions to receive and send file transfers.
  • File share Area
Read-Only: Users granted access to view file shares with no permissions to edit or transfer files.

Areas Excluded from Scope

This statement does not cover administrator-facing interfaces or advanced configuration tools. These areas are currently outside the scope but will be considered for future updates to ensure comprehensive accessibility across the entire application.

Compliance Status

Our Managed File Transfer Web App partially conforms to WCAG 2.2 AA standards. While many features are fully compliant, certain areas (as noted in section Non-Compliant Features) require further improvement.

Non-Compliant Features

We have identified the following non-compliant features and associated WCAG criteria:

  1. Keyboard Navigation (WCAG 2.1.1):
    - Checkbox input types are not navigable via keyboard and are not detected by screen readers.
    - Although possible, using a screen reader on the table property can be challenging using a screen reader due to the many column headers within some tables.
  2. Labels or Instructions (WCAG 3.3.2):
    - Some input fields lack labels, often due to third-party libraries which we cannot influence / change (e.g., reCAPTCHA response fields, Bootstrap table search inputs).
    - Duplicate form labels with identical IDs exist in certain areas of the application due to a single HTML page containing both user-facing and admin-facing interfaces. The visibility of these interfaces is determined by user permissions, with only one interface displayed at a time. However, because both forms remain present in the HTML structure, even when hidden, this triggers a WCAG 3.3.2 validation error in web accessibility tools due to conflicting ID attributes. While this issue does not impact the end-user experience, it does mean that compliance with WCAG 3.3.2 is not fully achieved in these specific instances.
  3. Contrast (WCAG 1.4.3):
    - A limited number of sections do not meet the minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1.
  4. Name, Role, Value (WCAG 4.1.2):
    - Some ARIA references break due to asynchronous rendering of inputs and their associated labels (Labels may temporarily “disconnect” from their inputs during the loading of a page), particularly in validation error messages. While this issue does not impact the end-user experience, it does mean that compliance with WCAG 4.1.2 is not fully achieved in these specific instances.

Ongoing Improvements

We at AMS are committed to ongoing accessibility enhancements. New pages and features are rigorously tested for compliance using the WCAG tools mentioned in the Compatibility with assistive technologies section. Identified issues are prioritized and addressed promptly. Administrative areas are not the primary focus at this time, as our priority is to enhance accessibility for end users. However, we are committed to progressively implementing updates that will improve accessibility in areas currently outside the scope of this statement.

Compatibility with Assistive Technologies

Our platform is tested with the following assistive technologies and tools:

  • Accessibility Insights for Web: This tool is designed to assist developers in identifying and resolving accessibility issues. It provides automated checks and guided assessments for WCAG compliance.
  • WAVE Evaluation Tool: WAVE can identify many accessibility and Web Content Accessibility Guideline (WCAG) errors but also facilitates human evaluation of web content.
  • NVDA Screen Reader: NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access) is a free, open-source screen reader widely used by individuals who rely on assistive technology. Testing with NVDA ensures that our platform is navigable and functional for users who depend on screen readers to access digital content.

Technical Specifications

We use a variety of technologies and best practices to ensure that the Managed File Transfer web application adheres to accessibility standards and provides an inclusive user experience. These include, but are not limited to:

  • HTML and WAI-ARIA: Used to define semantic structure and roles, enhancing navigability and comprehension for assistive technologies.
  • CSS Enhancements: Implemented to ensure compliance with color contrast requirements and improve visual clarity across the application.
  • Screen Reader and Keyboard Navigation Compatibility: We regularly update and test the application to maintain and improve its functionality with screen readers and keyboard-only navigation.
  • Proactive Accessibility in Development: All newly created pages and features undergo rigorous testing to meet accessibility standards before deployment.
  • Continuous Improvement: We actively monitor advancements in accessibility technologies and standards, incorporating best practices into the application to address evolving user needs.

Assessment Approach

Accessibility evaluations are conducted through internal self-assessments using industry-standard tools and methodologies. Developers review the entire area mentioned within the Scope of Accessibility Statement section, addressing identified issues to meet WCAG 2.2 AA criteria.
